What’s good at DHS?

  • School grade increased from a D grade to a B grade.
  • Graduation rate improved from 84% to 90%.
  • The senior class combined has earned an estimated total of 500 thousand dollars in scholarships.
  • Over 80% of our graduates will be attending a 4 year or 2 year post-secondary school next year.

ACADEMICS

  • Over 20 students representing the class of 2011 earned their associates of arts degree & their high school diploma.
  • The academic team placed 3rd in the county behind PHUHS – IB and SPHS – IB programs.
  • Five (5) students in the Digital Design class passed their industry certification exam.
  • Four (4) students in the Computing for College and Career class passed their industry certification exam.
  • Students in cosmetology, the academy of architectural design and building technologies program were recognized for their outstanding performance this year during the Regional and state SKILLS USA Leadership and skills competitions.
  • Two (2) of Dunedin High School finest students were recognized as National Merit Scholarship finalist and they have received full scholarships to the college of their choice.
  • One (1) student has been recognized by the 2010 – 2011 National Hispanic Recognition Program as an outstanding student.
  • For the first time in DHS history, we are proud to announce that we have two (2) valedictorians from the class of 2011.

 

STUDENTS

  • Volunteer of the year at the county and state level.
  • If musical theater is your life, then you should support the musical theater program at DHS. They are known for their excellent musical theater performances and many students have been accepted to nationally renowned performing arts schools throughout the country.
  • The Dunedin High Steppers – Step across the state of Florida educating the public about the dangers of Drugs, Alcohol, and dropping out of school.
  • The Falconaires and the Madrigal ensembles earned a Superior rating, which is the highest rating awarded!
  • Seniors in the Navy Jr. ROTC program should be recognized for their outstanding leadership on campus.  An example of that leadership are the many Blood Drives they organize and facilitate on campus.

ATHLETICS

  • One of our graduating senior handled himself like a professional golfer on the PGA circuit, demonstrating a constant blend of determination, desire and guts earning him a 12th place finish in the state among top high school golfers this past November.
  • It’s been 35 years since DHS qualified for state competition in cross country, and thanks to the athletic ability and endurance of a graduating senior, DHS returned to the state finals where we belong.
  • A senior graduate competed at the district and state level in swimming.
  • Three (3) seniors were recognized as All County All stars in football.
  • Two (2) seniors were recognized as All County All stars in flag football.
  • Three (3) seniors accumulated 100 wins in wresting during their High School career and they went on to compete at the state level.
  • A senior graduate competed at the state level in track and field.
  • Our boys’ tennis team dominated district play and earned the title of district champions for the 3rd consecutive year.
  • One of our outstanding senior tennis stars competed in state competition for the 3rd consecutive year, placing 2nd in the state.
  • Twelve (12) seniors representing the class of 2011 have signed athletic scholarships to play at a Division 1 or 2 school.
  • Senior standout baseball player was drafted by the NY Mets in the 28th round.

PARENTS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS

  • DHS has some of the greatest parents.  They volunteer their time, money and talents. Their giving goes a long way in supporting our dynamic teachers and the students of DHS.
  • Our 5.000 Role Model mentors are to be commended for their diligence in working with our young men.
  • Our PTSA was recognized by the county for their organization of the Random Acts of Kindness week. Many believed that this event was the spark to the improved behavior of our students on campus.
  • Visitors on the DHS campus have said that out of all the schools in Pinellas County, they have never seen a group of students as cooperative, courteous, and considerate as ours.

STAFF

  • “What’s Good At DHS” is the unbridled generosity of the DHS staff when they’re asked to step up and help those in need!  Building relationships with students and helping out beyond the classroom.
  • Our math department is utilizing various tools to increase student performance.
  • Plant operation staff works extremely hard to keep our campus in tip top shape.
  • Thanks to our SROs for their hard work and diligence with educating our students regarding the importance of making sound decisions and organizing the SADD program!
  • The Guidance department worked to make sure that our graduating seniors were on track and doing what is necessary to graduate on time.

What's Good at DHS

The Dunedin High School Highlander Band has been invited by Disney World to perform in their annual Christmas parade.

The Dunedin High School Highlander Band received a superior rating at their most recent competition.

The Drama Department produced another fall hit play "Ruthless".

The Swim and Dive team claimed a Regional Championship title this year in diving.

The Volleyball team was crowned District Champs for the first time in 22 years, and reached the regional semi-finals.

The Varsity Football team wrapped up the season with a winning record of 6-4.

The NJROTC cadets honored veterans at their annual Veterans Day Ceremony.

Also, the NJROTC program, in combined efforts with the faculty and students at DHS, donated hundreds of canned food items to feed needy families during the Thanksgiving holidays.

Fundamental shadowing has started and is going well.

Discovery Night is December 17, 2012.
